Look at what the cat dragged in!

While I was over at my parents house their cat Dusty brought in his most recent catch. Jordan found it first and I took what I thought was Dusty's most recent kill away from him. A closer look revealed it was a baby squirrel and it was still breathing! The poor little thing was so young it still had it's eyes closed. Luckily Dusty is very gentle with his prey when he first catches it so he has longer to play with it before eating it. I couldn't find a scratch on the little guy. I started to warm him up while Miriam searched the web to find out what we should do with him. Turns out we were to get him warm and then rehydrate him with pedialyte (which we had on hand) until we could find a Wildlife Rehabilitator. I started him on the pedialyte every 30 min while Miriam made what seemed like 20 phone calls until we found someone local who could take him and eventually release him back into the wild.
Here is the little box we kept him in. I had a hot watter bottle in there to help keep him warm.

Here I am feeding the poor little guy.

That's so cool! You guys are awesome!
Only a nurse would think to do what you did. I think if one of the wilkin men would have found it, and realized it was headed for their garden. They would have done according to Christmas Vacation "catch it in a coat and smack it with a hammer" I'm only kidding. He is so CUTE! :) Way to go Lanell! :)
